Hi, I am interested in film making but through an alternative route. I have heard of several directors that make films in texas, maybe particularly in Austin. Like Robert Rodriguez. I know Terrance Mallack( "Badlands", Thin Red Line) is actually from Texas too ( although he only seems to make 1 film every decade, if that). I am curious about the Texas film industry. Does anyone have the scoop on it? Is it real? Are there lots of productions generated from Texas? I know "Sin City" was made there as well as " A scanner darkly", and the recent "Grindhouse". What's the industry like , how can one become part of it? I am interested in directing and animating independently or possible working in it as an artist. So any tips would be appreciated, especially funding wise
If you wanna know the perks and incentives offered by a city or county always check with their Film Commision, it's their job to get people to come and film on location in their area for tourism, economy, etc..
Ask them to send you a copy of their local Production guide listing all the phone numbers of all industry people in that area from Directors to Rental Houses to P.A's who may sometimes be so desperate to work, they will intern for free.
click on sites above for a start- make some calls ,no one's gonna treat you anything but well. (usually, honestly Texas sorta frightens me...)
